Art Camp 2002: ‘Roots & Wings – Freedom’

Caribbean Contemporary Arts is hosting ‘Roots & Wings – Freedom’, the 2nd Annual Art Camp at CCA7, a Centre for the Contemporary Arts. There are two 2-week sessions, starting 15th July – 26th July and 29th July – 9th August 2002. Teenagers are invited to participate in a series of workshops with artists and educators who will motivate them to develop skills and concepts to create art and communication skills. Artist-led workshops will be in the Visual Arts, Theatre, Mas-making, Sculpture, Print-making and Textiles.

This year’s participants will also be introduced to techniques such as conflict resolution, team building skills and relaxation techniques.

Workshops will emphasise building creativity – regardless of the individual’s level of experience. Students will learn the importance of art as a means of personal expression, while exploring ideas of cultural diversity.

At the end of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to share their work with family and friends during a Family Day event and through an exhibition that will be up for one week. The Family Day is scheduled for Saturday 10th August 2002, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

For further information on the Art Camp, please call 625 1889/625 6805 and ask for Elsa or Joann.

‘Art Camp 2002: Roots & Wings’ was part of CCA’s continuous programme of exhibitions in the Main Gallery at CCA7 from 10th August to 23rd August 2002.
